It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a Taxonomy!

Something that comes up frequently when creating content is the need to categorize that content. A taxonomy can be useful for articles, news, blogs or any other type of content which lends itself to being organized into groups of similar items Categories are especially useful for content which site visitors might want to filter by type in order to facilitate finding the information they want. With Umbraco, we can quickly build out a simple taxonomy. To build a taxonomy, we just need a couple of document types and a multi-node picker data type. Once we have those, we can start categorizing other document types.

Ten Commandments for Building a Website Using a CMS

March 05, 2024 | Skrift

Whether we realize it or not, we all have our own personal best practices and preferences we follow when developing. Below, I've captured some of the things that influence my approach to building out a website using a content management system.

To Reuse, or Not to Reuse (Content), That is the Question

One of the most powerful elements of Umbraco is its flexibility. This flexibility, however, means that there are multiple ways to achieve just about everything one needs to do within the CMS. Efficiency and simplicity - for me, these are two key characteristics of an effective content management system. Content management systems exist to allow non-technical users to create rich content on the websites they maintain without involving technical help. For a CMS to be useful, editors must be able to manage content quickly and easily. The ease with which content editors can use a content management system is partially determined by the out of the box features of the CMS. However, the organization of the content within the system along with the way editors go about placing that content on pages can have as much, if not more of an impact, on the editor’s ability to navigate and use a CMS.

Enhancing the Content Editor Experience

December 17, 2023 | 24 Days

Chances are that if you have been working in the CMS world for any length of time, at some point you have had a content editor say this - or something similar - to you. Blasphemy! How dare anyone disparage our beloved Umbraco?! Umbraco is perfect in every way! Joking aside, what they likely mean (without realizing it) is that they dislike the way their instance of Umbraco is implemented.

Speaking Engagements

Empowering Content Editors
